The Three best Methods to Potty Train a Puppy

Puppy Potty Training Schedule

A new puppy is like a blank canvas. If you want to paint a masterpiece, you have to put in the time and effort. The same is true of potty training your puppy. It takes patience, persistence, and plenty of positive reinforcement during training sessions. In the end, it will be worth it! If you are wondering what method to use when potty training your new family member, don’t worry! We have compiled three of the best ways for potty training below:

Crate Training you Puppy

Crate training is an excellent way to potty train a puppy. Crate training is a great way to keep your puppy safe and secure. It will also help her feel more comfortable around other people and dogs and help you keep an eye on her when you can’t be with her.

Crate training has some other benefits as well:

  • Your puppy will be more likely to learn how to “hold it” until they can get outside because they don’t want accidents in their crates.
  • It will stop them from having accidents in your house.

Paper Pad Training your Puppy

Paper training is the easiest way to start potty training, which we recommend for most dogs. It involves placing your puppy on a paper pad in the bathroom or other area of your house that works well for potty training

If you choose this potty training method, make sure that you don’t leave anything on that could distract your dog from going to the bathroom (like toys). For more information on paper training, check out this guide.

Outdoor Puppy Potty Training

If you decide to potty train your puppy outside, it’s important that you follow a schedule. When it comes to potty training, consistency is key. Here’s what this method entails:

  • After waking up from a nap or after playing, take your pup outside.
  • Take him out again every two hours for at least two weeks straight (or until he consistently goes outside).
  • Praise your puppy when they go in their designated spot, so they know what they did was right!

Remember, the first night and first few weeks with your new puppy can be stressful, especially if you’re unfamiliar with how to train a puppy – but it can be done!

These are just three of the many ways you can potty train your puppy. We hope this article has helped you decide which method is suitable for you and your family.

If none of these methods sound like a good fit, try looking into other options, like hiring a trained professional or joining an online forum where members share their experiences with different types of training programs or check out one of our other blogs where we go more in-depth on other methods for training puppies.
